The Matise family has been providing professional brokerage services since 1939. Originally founded by Mike Matise, we are an independent, family business. Our experience, integrity and strong work ethic are the cornerstones to our success, as well as our clients'.
Mike Matise founded Mike Matise Realtors in 1939 in Tyler, Texas in order to appraise, market and sell commercial, residential and investment properties. At that time, there were no title companies, so on most transactions, Mike acted as real estate agent, escrow officer, and insurance agent. Known throughout East Texas for his generosity and determination, he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America.
Hoyt R. (Dick) Matise has over 50 years of experience in the real estate and business brokerage industry. After serving in the United States Air Force and attending the University of Texas at Austin, Dick relocated from Tyler to Dallas in 1968 and founded the Hoyt R. Matise Company. Like his father, Dick provided a variety of services for all types of properties and his company maintained a sizeable inventory of exclusively listed properties, ultimately becoming one of the largest commercial brokerage firms in Dallas. With a commitment to serve others, Dick is active in the United Methodist Church and is a Senior Mason with the Shriners and active with the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
Mark Matise has over 30 years of experience in real estate marketing, sale and development. He obtained his Texas Real Estate Broker License after receiving his bachelors degree in Business from Southern Methodist University following his father and grandfather into the family business in 1986. He currently is responsible for the development of independent senior living communities. Mark is a devoted husband and father to his 3 children and active in the United Methodist Church.
Bruce Berman joined Hoyt Matise Corporation in 1983 and has an extensive background in property acquisitions and dispositions. With 35 years of completed real estate transactions, he is considered an expert in market knowledge, negotiations, and ground up developments. Mr. Berman has successfully represented clients in many different specialties of the death care industry ranging from individual funeral home owners, consolidators, commercial crematory operators, and cemetery and mausoleum owners. Mr. Berman also understands and develops great relationships with those who seek to newly engage business in death care. Clients know they can rely on Mr. Berman's personal attention to detail and instilled confidence to achieve their goals, whether through acquisitions, disposition, new financing, or re-refinancing an existing operation. His personal integrity and unending drive are touchstones that have helped make Hoyt Matise Corporation successful.
Jerry Thornton joined Hoyt Matise Corporation in 2000 to provide his expertise in financial evaluations and consultations to Matise Clients in the Funeral/Cemetery Industry. He is exclusively responsible for providing underwriting and financial planning for acquisitions, expansions, and refinancing including restructuring. Additionally, his underwriting is tailored to the precise requirements and parameters of proposed lenders for each specific assignment.
Prior to joining Matise, Mr. Thornton enjoyed a 45 year career in finance as a Bank President, Bank Examiner, Bank and Non-Bank Lender, where he reviewed, packaged, underwrote and provided industry expertise to a variety of lenders. This knowledge of lender’s preferred, unique parameters provides Hoyt Matise Corporation a significant edge in obtaining a high degree of loan approvals.
Patricia Matise founded Matise Residential Brokerage and provides over 40 years of residential real estate expertise to her clients. A dedicated member of the Dallas brokerage community, Patricia is an invaluable resource for market trends and neighborhoods. Additionally, an interior designer and antiques expert, Patricia offers exceptional guidance in home staging, decorating and editing in the event of downsizing. She holds a masters degree in Education from the University of Texas in Austin and is highly involved in the United Methodist Church, Dallas Women’s Club, The Dallas Collectors Club and the East Dallas Antique Club.
MELINDA MATISE GILLIAM
Melinda Matise has over 30 years of experience in commercial and residential real estate. She is an expert in complex contract negotiations and many transactions are consummated as a result of her extensive network within the brokerage community prior to the property ever reaching the open market. Melinda is responsible for the day to day operations of the Matise companies, as well as the marketing materials, website and advertising components in conjunction with both residential and funeral homes and cemeteries throughout the United States. Melinda holds a bachelor of arts degree in Marketing and Public Relations from Southern Methodist University and is involved with the United Methodist Church, Tri Delta Sorority, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, and the Junior League of Dallas, as well as being a devoted mother to her four children.
Dale Gilliam joined Matise in 2017 and is responsible for the management, operation and administrative aspects of Matise. As a competitive tennis player at the college level, Dale brings experience in time management, organization and determination to his projects. Dale attended the University of Texas in Tyler where he was on the tennis team and is currently completing his degree in English.
